Reaching Out!

PYT’S RESIDENCY, OUTREACH AND WORKSHOP PROGRAMS

For classes interested in an extended immersion into the performing arts, a PYT Residency can enhance your curriculum by engaging students in learning through the arts. It is a fun way to bring excitement into your classroom, and to acquaint teachers with NEW tools to make learning exciting and meaningful. Working closely with the classroom teacher, PYT Teaching Artists will create a residency just for you, integrating drama, dance and music which facilitates student learning across the curriculum. Using literature as the foundation, we craft rich, multi-layered learning experiences in which children respond through movement, music and improvisation.

Available to all grades levels.

Each session may run 1-1/2 hours for 8-12 weeks.

Please inquire for cost.

Curtains UP on Reading!  (Pre-K to Grade 5)

Through Curtains Up On Reading, stories spring to life through story dramatization when a professional teaching artist visits the classroom. Students are guided to explore and identify the themes, plot, character and world of the story through dramatic techniques that foster literacy and a love of reading. For the culmination activity, the students will have chosen, rehearsed and performed a particular story for invited guests.

Middle School Ensemble Building and Improvisation Residency  (Grade 5 to Grade 9)

Through theatre games, scene and monologues, and improvisation, the students will identify and explore issues of tolerance and community within their school. This exploration will generate material that the students will use to create their own piece of theatre. They will become the playwrights, the directors, the designers and the producers. Literature, Social Studies, Math and Science themes will be interwoven into each session and an investigation of how theater integrates these disciplines will be defined.

DRAMA WORKS!

For classes that are attending a PYT production, schedule our Drama Works! Each production at PYT has its own customized Pre- and Post-Performance workshop that uses curriculum drawn from that specific production and focuses on connecting the show’s themes to existing classroom curriculum. Our goal through these Pre- and/or Post-performance workshops is to engage students’ imaginations while they learn about the play by connecting it to classroom curriculum. Teachers also gain valuable, first-hand experience integrating the arts in their classroom while collaborating with trained teaching artists.
