Summerstage 2020

Dear families,

We would like to update you on our SummerStage Camps.

After reviewing the most recent recommendations from government and health organizations, we made the difficult decision to suspend ALL in-person SummerStage Camps until restrictions are lifted, We will continue to monitor the situation and consider re-opening with small capacity Showtime Camps if possible.

BUT we have adapted our camp line-up for the virtual world!

Don’t let staying home keep your young actor from performing. We are now bringing our signature SUMMERSTAGE camps straight into your living room! Seizing the challenges of the moment, we’ll embrace the camera as a unique creative tool and use this opportunity to fully explore on-screen acting. We’ll introduce the idea of site-specific theatre, turning our own homes into cool, alternative performance spaces. “All the world’s a stage…” and distance won’t keep us from making one together, this summer.

We are offering a NEW class for our High School students looking forward to a career in theatre, as well as NEW dance classes.  More information below.

We ask for your continued patience, partnership, and understanding as we navigate these challenges and changes to summer programming.

Thank you for standing with us during this time. And, if you have any questions, please reach out!

Valerie Reinhardt:  vreinhardt@123pyt.org

Jill Dunn Jones: jdunn@123pyt.org

Please stay safe and healthy!

With much appreciation,

PYT Staff

Below is our VIRTUAL summer line-up!

DATE CHANGE: Musical Theatre Marathon: Beetlejuice

June 29-July 3, 2020

This one-week workshop will use excerpts of scenes and songs from condensed versions of this popular musical to share with friends and family on the last day of class.  Beetlejuice tells the story of Lydia Deetz, a strange and unusual teenager whose whole life changes when she meets a recently deceased couple and a demon with a thing for stripes. And under its uproarious surface (six feet under, to be exact), it’s a remarkably touching show about family, love, and making the most of every Day-O! No experience is necessary to enjoy a week of exploring an amazing show!

Behind the Curtain:  Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

July 6-10, 2020

Explore ALL aspects of theatre-making through this intensive and imaginative one-week camp.  From set, sound, lighting and costume design, to directing, playwriting, devising, and acting.  Theatre professionals from all over the Lehigh Valley and beyond bring their experience and expertise of the stage to PYT’s Showtime campers.   Seminar style classes in all aspects of the theatre-making. Students will collaborate as an ensemble to create and perform a theatre piece centered around the Broadway hit, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

Musical Theatre Marathon: Hadestown

July 13-17, 2020

This one-week workshop will use excerpts of scenes and songs from condensed versions of this popular musical to share with friends and family on the last day of class. Hadestown intertwines two mythic tales-that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and his wife Persephone-as it invites you on a journey to the underworld and back. Hadestown is a haunting and hopeful theatrical experience that grabs you and never lets go.  Winner of 8 Tonys, including “Best Musical” in 2019.

Triple Threat

August 17-21, 2020

Triple Threat gives Campers the opportunity to work on musical numbers from some of the most well-known musicals on Broadway, as well as great songs from the world of musical theatre. Daily classes in acting, singing and dancing will help bring the modern American musical to life. All experience levels are welcome. Campers will create a ‘review’ using the musical numbers worked on during camp to be shared with friends and family on August 21st.

Students embark on a journey of putting on a musical VIRTUALLY.  These are action-packed and challenging 2 weeks, full of learning, fun and friends!

Auditions will be held day one of camp. Campers will receive audition materials prior to the start of camp.

The first week is focused on learning the show material, music, and choreography with lots of rehearsal time. The second week moves into running the show, exploring the technical elements of costumes and props, and recording the performance for families to view at the end of the week.

Digital script with score will be provided, in addition to recordings of the songs.

DATE CHANGE: Disney’s Moana, Jr.

July 20-31, 2020

This thrilling and heartwarming coming-of-age story follows the strong-willed Moana as she sets sail across the Pacific to save her village and discover the truth about her heritage. Moana and the legendary demigod Maui embark on an epic journey of self-discovery and camaraderie as both learn to harness the power that lies within. With empowering messages of bravery and selflessness, Moana JR. is sure to bring out the hero within each of us.

Legally Blonde the Musical, Jr.

August 3-14, 2020

Legally Blonde JR. follows the transformation of Elle Woods as she tackles stereotypes, snobbery and scandal in pursuit of her dreams. When Elle’s boyfriend, Warner, dumps her and heads to Harvard, claiming she’s not “serious” enough, Elle takes matters into her own hands, crafting a showy song-and-dance personal essay and charming her way into law school. Befriending classmate, Emmett, and spunky hairdresser, Paulette, along the way, Elle finds that books and looks aren’t mutually exclusive.  As Elle begins outsmarting her peers, she realizes that law may be her natural calling after all.
