PERFORMING ON STAGE
STUDENT SHOWCASES
As an extension of their performing arts education, PYT students have numerous opportunities to perform on stage.
PYT PERFORMS!
PYT Performs! features all Drama/Dance classes and selected Dance Division classes in an end-of-the-year showcase. This year's performances will be Sunday, April 19th, at The Scottish Rite Cathedral in Allentown.
DANCERS IN CONCERT
Dance Division students and selected Senior Cabaret performers will perform in a Dancers In Concert on June 7th at Moravian College’s Foy Hall in Bethlehem.
VOICE CONCERTS
Students in PRIVATE VOICE, SEMI-PRIVATE VOICE, and SINGING ON STAGE will be featured in the Holiday Concert December 18th, and the Spring Voice Concert on April 23rd.
EVENING OF SCENES
Senior Conservatory students in PERFORMANCE INTENSIVE, MASTERCLASS, ADVANCED ACTING, and IMPROVE & SCENE STUDY will present scenes and monologues at Evening of Scenes on March 30th.
SENIOR CABARET
Senior Cabaret on February 27th and 28th will offer PYT's most advanced students an opportunity to showcase both their acting and singing talents in an evening of musical theatre scenes and songs. Choreographed by PYT staff, as well as guest directors the Cabaret will be attended by professional agents and directors. In class, senior conservatory students will prepare a performance piece. Auditions for students who would like to be in numbers with guest choreographers will be held on December 20th 11:00am – 1:30pm. These auditions are optional. If cast, students will pay a $60 performance fee to cover the cost of additional choreography. Please note: students must be enrolled for the full-year in order to participate in Senior Cabaret.
PYT MAINSTAGE PRODUCTIONS
Mainstage productions are fully-staged professional plays and musicals that feature professional adult performers as well as PYT students. Seen by a school and family audience of 20,000, these shows are produced at Bethlehem's Charles A. Brown Ice House on Sand Island and Allentown's Symphony Hall. Students ages 6 and up who are enrolled in PYT classes are eligible to audition. Being a PYT student does not guarantee a role and, on occasion, it may be necessary to cast a non-PYT student in a Mainstage production. See Mainstage Productions under Performance Opportunities for more information.
CHARACTER COMPANY
PYT Senior Conservatory students will further improve their acting and characterization skills by producing dynamic and thought-provoking plays and musicals that encourage intelligent dialogue about the production’s characters, plot, and themes. Shows produced by Character Company will be directed and rehearsed workshop style with separate emphasis on book study, literary significance and cultural impact, as well as a heightened focus on truthful acting, dramatic interpretation and storytelling techniques. See audition information for A Village Fable, Character Company’s first production.
DANCE ALLEGRO and CompanyJAZZ
PYT’s ballet and jazz performing ensembles, give talented and committed young dancers an opportunity to learn and perform original choreography and works from classic repertoire as well as to study with a variety of choreographers and master teachers. Company members are selected through an audition process which is open to qualified PYT students as well as dancers from the community.
