THE INTEGRATED PROGRAM

This program offers a well-rounded performing arts education with a focus on acting, singing, and dance within a comprehensive weekly workshop. The creative learning process is emphasized as students develop skills and grow in confidence. Students ages 6 and up enrolled in the INTEGRATED PROGRAM have full audition privileges for PYT productions. This program begins the week of September 13th and ends in late April, 2005.

STORYBOOK PLAYHOUSE - Ages 3 & 4

Let's pretend! Dinosaurs, mermaids, rainbows, and robots spark imagination and engage children with literature in these six-week sessions that give you and your child the opportunity to explore the arts through stories, movement, music, and the visual arts.

PLAYMAKERS - Ages 3 1/2  & 4
Students are guided through a variety of creative activities including drama, dance and music. Nursery rhymes, children's literature, and familiar life experiences serve as springboards for informal playmaking. Creative dance, songs, poems, and instruments help participants create rhythms that are coordinated with simple movement. (Students must be 3 1/2 as of September 13, 2004.)

Each drama class explores a theme through acting, movement, and music. Creative dance develops body awareness, coordination and rhythm through simple movements and mime activities. Imagination, communication skills, and confidence are developed.

Experience in the performing arts benefits all students, including those with physical, emotional and cognitive disabilities. The Pegasus Project brings performing arts experience to special needs students.
• PYT offers school residency programs. An artist-teacher will work with a special-needs classroom. Book at least one semester in advance.
• Financial assistance is available for students with disabilities who wish to enroll in PYT classes.

IMAGINATION - Grades 3 & 4
This class involves students in the world of performing arts through the excitement of theatre games, creative dramatics, dance, and musical theatre. Fluency of ideas, confidence, and creativity develop as students create short, original plays based on real-life situations and ideas suggested by literature. Fundamentals of jazz are introduced, and routines are taught to encourage vitality and enthusiasm for dance. A musical theatre unit includes warm-ups, breath control and projection.

IMAGINATION PLUS - Grades 4 & 5
In addition to theatre games, creative drama, and improvisation, students will be introduced to basic methods of approaching scripted materials through beginning monologues and simple scenes. Dance class continues to help students develop strong jazz technique, and a musical theatre unit will include instruction in breath control, projection, and acting though singing.

Designed with special appeal to boys, this class includes dramatization of folk-tales, legends and adventure stories. Coordination, strength, endurance, and self-discipline are fostered through Kung Fu instruction. Vocal warm-ups, breath control, and projection will be taught in a musical theatre unit.

INTERMEDIATE ACTING I & II - Grades 5 & 6
These classes explore characterization, vocalization, and spontaneity through advanced improvisation. Students also study scripted material and begin to develop unique and truthful characters via scene study. Dance instruction emphasizes musical theatre technique and character work through ensemble numbers from Broadway musicals. Placement in level I or II based on previous experience and age.

Drama instruction emphasizes physical, vocal and emotional skill building, as well as the development of believable characters. Dance instruction focuses on musical theatre movement and jazz styles. IMPROV & SCENE STUDY - Grades 8 & 9  
For the experienced actor, this class focuses on three areas: Improvisation and Theatre Games which develop spontaneity, concentration, and flexibility; Scene Study which this year will focus on youth theatre scripts; and, Musical Theatre which will involve rehearsal of scenes and music from Broadway musicals, culminating in Senior Cabaret on February 12. A weekly dance class helps maintain movement skills. By permission of instructor.

ADVANCED ACTING - Grades 9 & 10
This class challenges the experienced young actor to become a well-rounded performer through three units of study: Improvisational Skill Building which will foster spontaniety; Scenes and Monologues which will introduce students to the classics including the Greeks, Shakespeare, and Moliere; and Musical Theatre which will involve students in rehearsal for Senior Cabaret. A weekly dance class will develop musical theatre movement skills. By permission of instructor.

An exciting challenge for the advanced student, this class will merge improvisation, voice, and movement with scene study from major playwrights of the modern period including Chekov, Brecht, Ibsen, and Shaw. Senior Cabaret and An Evening of Scenes will give students an opportunity to showcase their talents for parents, friends, agents, & invited guests.

PERFORMANCE INTENSIVE - Grades 10-12
For the most advanced students, this class combines an introduction through scene study to post-modern playwrights including Albee, Pinter, and Stoppard plus Senior Project, an original work devised by the group and performed for parents, friends, and invited guests. Students will, also, perform in Senior Cabaret, an evening of scenes and music from the Broadway Stage. (By permission of instructor.)
